In the wide, exposed emptiness of Montana, the danger isn’t always what you can see.
For centuries, tribes across the plains told stories about something that didn’t hunt like a wolf… and didn’t sound like anything that belonged in the natural world. They called it the Shunka Warak’in—the thing that carries off dogs.
Then in 1886, a rancher shot something that matched those stories.
And today, that creature still exists.
Mounted. Preserved.
Unexplained.
Because in Big Sky Country, the horizon doesn’t hide anything.
But that doesn’t mean everything out there wants to be seen.
