Most people think lymphedema is trapped water, similar to edema, but it’s not that simple.
It’s a normal occurrence for protein and water to leak out of the blood vessels into the surrounding tissues. A healthy lymphatic system removes this excess fluid from the tissues and returns it to the bloodstream.

When the lymphatic system fails, protein can become trapped in the limbs. This trapped protein is what separates lymphedema from general leg swelling or edema. Lymphedema occurs when lymphatic drainage isn’t working properly, typically due to a blockage or inadequate pumping of the lymphatic system.

Lymphedema is often worse in one leg than the other, while edema involves more equal swelling on both sides. Diuretics aren’t typically effective for lymphedema because they remove water but not the trapped protein.

To address chronic leg swelling and lymphedema symptoms, it’s important to understand what’s interfering with the lymphatic system’s ability to pump and drain properly. Metabolic health is often linked to the severity of lymphedema.

Nighttime leg cramps are not caused by a problem with the muscle itself. They’re related to the nervous system.

Leg cramps at night are typically a direct result of a magnesium deficiency. Some people think magnesium isn’t improving their leg cramps, but they may simply be taking the wrong form. Magnesium glycinate is one of the best-absorbed forms of magnesium.

Magnesium may not stop your leg cramps if you’re also low in vitamin D. Magnesium and vitamin D work together, so the more magnesium you take, the more vitamin D you need, and vice versa.

If you have severe leg cramps, it may take longer to see results.

Magnesium is a vital mineral that acts as a cofactor for more than 350 enzymes, making it essential for countless processes throughout the body.

Common magnesium deficiency symptoms include chronic fatigue, muscle cramps, twitching, insomnia, irregular heart rhythms, insulin resistance, elevated cortisol, and depression. Fatigue is one of the most common signs because magnesium is required to produce ATP, the body’s primary source of cellular energy. Magnesium also helps power the sodium-potassium pump.

Most people develop a magnesium deficiency by eating too many refined foods and not enough magnesium-rich foods. Most blood tests can miss a magnesium deficiency because 99% of magnesium is not in the blood.

Magnesium glycinate is one of the best-absorbed forms of magnesium. Correcting a magnesium deficiency may support better sleep, improved energy levels, and improved overall health.

Bloating and Constipation Aren’t Normal (TUDCA vs. Ox Bile)

    17/08/2026 | 7 min

TUDCA is an ancient remedy that has been used in Chinese medicine and is still prescribed for certain liver diseases in Japan today.

Bile is made by the liver and stored and concentrated in the gallbladder. It’s released when you eat to help break down fat and absorb nutrients from fat, including fat-soluble vitamins and phytonutrients. Bile is also antimicrobial, helps remove excess cholesterol, and helps increase GLP-1.

If you’re deficient in bile, try taking 200 mg of ox bile after a meal.

Unlike ox bile, which remains in the digestive system, TUDCA is water-soluble and can travel outside the digestive system and throughout the entire body. TUDCA supports healthy bile flow through the liver and bile ducts and helps increase insulin sensitivity.

TUDCA doesn’t break down fat, so ox bile is better suited for supporting fat digestion. Try taking 250 mg of TUDCA on an empty stomach twice per day.

What Happens to Your Body Years After Gallbladder Removal

    14/08/2026 | 11 min

When faced with gallbladder surgery, most people are told there’s no other option, and the side effects of gallbladder removal aren’t always properly explained.

The gallbladder is a small sac that stores and concentrates bile, releasing it when you eat to help break down fat. Bile is produced by the liver and is critical for proper nutrient absorption.

Gallbladder stones are one of the main reasons for a cholecystectomy. Gallstones typically form from the crystallization of excess cholesterol. Bile sludge is a precursor to gallstones.

Fat consumption triggers gallbladder contraction and bile release. Low-fat diets are often recommended, but they are not always the best approach for digestive health.

Excess estrogen can increase the risk of gallstones. Insulin resistance can also increase the risk and is often at the root of many gallbladder problems.

The full side effects that can occur after gallbladder removal surgery aren’t always discussed. After gallbladder removal, many people experience problems related to either excess bile or bile deficiency.

Choline is essential for helping prevent gallstones, yet many people don’t get enough. Eggs are one of the best sources of choline.
