Album:  The TRUTH About Food & Travel 030926
    Episode #:  2006 Original Broadcast Date: 03/09/26
FULL SHOW RECAP:  The mainstream press is finally running stories about chemicals in the food supply — which means the pressure from informed consumers has gotten loud enough that ignoring it stopped being an option. Elizabeth Covers that and the FDA's latest attempt to redefine "ultra processed" on industry-friendly terms. Server's Revenge puts a face on the people who know exactly what's in your food and still can't make rent. The Top 10 Fair Foods of 2026 remind us that America still knows how to fry something glorious and hand it to a stranger. The 15 Years segment returns to Terry Ingraham's collapsing bee colonies and the pesticide science that proved him right after it was too late to matter. A corned beef deep dive asks what saltpeter is really doing in your St. Patrick's Day pot. On the travel side, war and a polio alert are reshaping the map, the government shutdown is degrading every point of entry, ten historical artifacts hiding in plain sight prove the best destinations reward people who slow down, and Door County, Wisconsin closes the hour with a fire, a fish boil, and a sky full of stars.

SUGARCANE IS USED TO RIPEN SUGARCANE

    19/02/2026 | 6 min

Album: The TRUTH About Food and Travel
    Episode #: 1793
    Original Broadcast Date: 08/13/2013
We've told you about genetically modified sugar beets and encouraged folks to eat pure sugarcane instead. Now, we are concerned about new information we discovered about a process designed to increase the profitability of sugarcane crops. We want to share this information with you.
Thanks to a listener who sent us a tip, we verified some surprising information in an interview with a researcher at the USDA. Sugarcane in Louisiana, Florida and other parts of the world are sprayed with the herbicide glyphosate (the active ingredient in RoundUp) before harvest to speed up the ripening process and to increase its sweetness.
Also, read about new GMO bioengineered sugarcane  undisclosed FRAUD.
Some studies worldwide suggest there is no safe level of glyphosate. Glyphosate was not developed to be ingested by humans.
U.S. Sugar (the same entity developing genetically modified oranges through Southern Gardens Citrus) did not respond to our attempts to contact them to comment on this story.
From the Food Travel USA Interview Archives: Elizabeth Dougherty spoke with with Caleb Dalley from the USDA Sugarcane Research Unit.

She paints a vivid picture of its rugged mountains, ancient bristlecone pines, and dazzling night skies. Unlike the crowded icons of the national park system, Great Basin offers solitude, mystery, and raw beauty.
