The Filipino and Murrawarri musician, rapper, producer, composer and drummer has been building one of the most distinctive bodies of work in Australian music since he began releasing his own material in 2018. His 2024 album WARRANGU: River Story brought his music to a much wider audience, winning the ARIA Award for Best World Music Album and earning a shortlist nomination for the Australian Music Prize. Now Dobby returns with Marshmallow, due July 31st, an album that sees him exploring a completely different sonic space, alongside a brand new single, Free Your Mind, out today. On today's episode, Dobby joins us to talk about the making of Marshmallow and the creative shift it represents, the inspiration behind Free Your Mind, and what it feels like to step into such different sonic territory after WARRANGU: River Story.

It's a record that draws on everything sonically the band have built across their catalogue, and one that feels like a genuine statement from a group who have never been content to stand still. A thirteen-time Grammy winner, one of modern music's most celebrated producers, with credits alongside Sabrina Carpenter, Kendrick Lamar, and Taylor Swift, and the frontman of New Jersey rock band Bleachers, Jack has spent years making Springsteen-esque, literary rock music that sits in a category entirely its own. Their 2024 self-titled record brought the band to new heights, culminating in a sold-out Madison Square Garden show, and last week they returned with their fifth studio album, Everyone for 10 Minutes, an evolved, deeply felt record exploring themes of hope, grief, and ordinary life.
