This week on the Capes and Tights Podcast, Justin Soderberg welcomes back Paul Eaton of Galactic Comics and Collectibles to discuss the 1991 film, The Rocketeer.

Cliff Secord is a cocky stunt pilot in love with a beautiful actress, Jenny Blake. When he discovers a jetpack hidden in a biplane, Cliff straps on the rocket, dons a flashy helmet and becomes the high-flying hero known as The Rocketeer. But when Nazis want to use the rocket as a weapon, Cliff must use his alter ego to both protect Jenny from an evil actor and save the day.

The Rocketeer was directed by Joe Johnston (Captain America: The First Avenger, Jumanji, October Sky) on a story by Danny Bilson, Paul De Meo, and William Dear based on the comic books by Dave Stevens. The film stars Billy Campbell as Clifford "Cliff" Secord / The Rocketeer, Alan Arkin as A. "Peevy" Peabody, Jennifer Connelly as Jenny Blake, Timothy Dalton as Neville Sinclair, Paul Sorvino as Eddie Valentine, Terry O'Quinn as Howard Hughes, and Tiny Ron Taylor as Lothar.

Cliff Secord first appeared in Starslayer #2 (April 1982) from Pacific Comics before coming back in Pacific Comics Presents. The rights to the comic are now with IDW Publishing having released recent series such as The Island and Infiltrator! in 2026.

Over the past decade-plus, Joshua Millican has proven himself to be a horror expert of the highest caliber. After establishing a personal blog in 2011, Millican quickly became one of the genre’s premiere journalists, contributing to many websites before ultimately landing at Dread Central in 2016. One of the top horror outlets on the planet, Millican served as Editor-in-Chief from 2019 through 2021. His talk show Chronic Horror (sidelined by the Pandemic) explored the intersection of horror movie fandom and cannabis culture.

Millican other books include Septum and Deeper Than Hell, as well as Forbidden Zone: The Novelization. Recently Millican released Dopefoot at Mad Axe Media.

Watters is an Eisner-winning comic writer located in England who has worked on numerous projects from DC, Marvel, Image Comics, BOOM! Studios, IDW Publishing, and more. These titles include Nightwing, Destro, Detective Comics, The Six Fingers, Loki, Home Sick Pilots, Universal Monsters: Creature from the Black Lagoon, Batman: Dark Patterns, and more.

Recently Dan was been writing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder and the opening chapter of The Twilight Zone for IDW Publishing, as well as M.A.S.K. for Image Comics. The trade paperbacks for TMNT: Shredder and The Twilight Zone: Stories from the Fifth Dimension hit stores on August 4 and September 1, 2026 respectively.

This week on the Capes and Tights Podcast, Justin Soderberg welcomes author Dane Erbach to the program to discuss Meat Bees, his upcoming novel from Clash Books, and more!

Erbach is a writer from Chicago’s northwest suburbs. He teaches English and journalism at a public high school. In 2006, Dane received his bachelor's degree in English and Education from Lake Forest College, where he wrote for the student newspaper. He taught at a North Shore high school before landing at McHenry Community High School, where he has taught since 2008. Dane earned his master's degree from DePaul University's School of New Learning in 2014. For many summers, he has taught writing at Northwestern University to gifted and talented middle and elementary school students.

In 2024, Dane published his first novel entitled Friday Night at Humble House. His second novel, Meat Bees, publishes on August 4, 2026 form Clash Books.

Horvath is a filmmaker and comic book creator best known for IDW Publishing's Eisner-nominated comic book series Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees as well as the upcoming sequel, Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees: Rite of Spring. Horvath is also the mind behind the Zoop funded and Oni Press released Free For All.

It was recently announced Patrick would pen the upcoming Archie in Hell series for Oni Press, coming this November 2026.
