    #275: Deadpool Movie Review - 10th Anniversary

    01/04/2026 | 48 min
This week on the Capes and Tights Podcast, Justin Soderberg welcomes back comic book retailer Paul Eaton to the program to discuss the Deadpool movie for the film's 10th anniversary!

Wade Wilson is a former Special Forces operative who now works as a mercenary. His world comes crashing down when evil scientist Ajax tortures, disfigures and transforms him into Deadpool. The rogue experiment leaves Deadpool with accelerated healing powers and a twisted sense of humor. With help from mutant allies Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Deadpool uses his new skills to hunt down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Directed by Tim Miller and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, it is a spin-off of the X-Men film series and its overall eighth installment. Ryan Reynolds stars as the titular character, alongside Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Ed Skrein as Francis Freeman / Ajax, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, and Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead.

The film achieved both critical and commercial success, earning $782.6 million against a $58 million budget, becoming the ninth-highest-grossing film of 2016 and breaking numerous records, including the highest-grossing film in the X-Menseries and the highest-grossing R-rated film at the time.

Based on the comic character created by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza who first appeared in New Mutants #98(December 1990).

The film released originally on February 12, 2016 and is available to stream right now.
