This week on the Capes and Tights Podcast, Justin Soderberg welcomes comic creator Ande Parks to discuss his latest comics Bad Thoughts, Tyler Rake: An Extraction Story, and more!

Ande Parks has worked as a comic book artist for nearly three decades, inking titles such as Daredevil, Ant-Man, Superman, Wonder Woman and Nightwing. He is best known for his long stint on Green Arrow, with frequent collaborator Phil Hester and writers Kevin Smith, Brad Meltzer and Judd Winick. Parks' bold style has garnered him nominations in both the Harvey and Eagle awards.

Parks has written three graphic novels for Oni Press: Union Station, Capote in Kansas and Ciudad. Capote in Kansas was named a Notable Book by the state of Kansas. Parks developed Ciudad with the Russo brothers, and the book was adapted as a film for Netflix, titled 'Extraction' and starring Chris Hemsworth.

Parks has authored the Green Hornet and Lone Ranger franchises for Dynamite Entertainment, and has written Daredevil for Marvel Comics. He also adapted three Jonathan Kellerman novels to the graphic novel format for Random House.

More recently, Parks has been hard at work on Tyler Rake: An Extraction Story as well as Bad Thoughts over at Ignition Press.

The heroic warrior He-Man battles against the evil lord Skeletor and his armies of darkness for control of Castle Grayskull.

Masters of the Universe was directed by Gary Goddard, produced by Yoram Globus and Menahem Golan, and written by David Odell. It stars Dolph Lundgren as He-Man, Frank Langella as Skeletor, Meg Foster as Evil-Lyn, Billy Bartyas Gwildor, Courteney Cox as Julie Winston, Robert Duncan McNeill as Kevin Corrigan, Jon Cypher as Man-At-Arms, and Chelsea Field as Teela.

First released on August 7, 1987, MOTU is available on Blu-ray!

Joey Esposito grew up in New England reading comic books, playing video games, renting movies, and writing stories. After high school, Joey attended film school in New York. In college, Joey honed his writing skills, which he soon applied to his love of prose and comics. He released his first creator-owned comic Footprints, which was featured in USA Today’s Best of 2011 roundup and inspired a sequel, Footprints: Bad Luck Charm, in 2014.

More recently Esposito has written comics such as DC's Batman: Urban Legends, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Pedestrian, Power Rangers: Zord Quest, Shitkickers, and more.

In 2026, Joey is setup for a fun year with the release of Killer Influences and Power Rangers Unlimited on July 1 (FOC: May 25).

Kaplan is a break out science fiction comic writer and creator of such comics and graphic novels as Eclipse, Port of Earth, The Lost City Explorers, Join the Future, Break Out, Metal Society, Mindset, and more recently, Forever Forward, Beyond Real. The Midnight: Shadows, Masterminds, and Kill All Immortals. He has worked with publishers such as Image Comics/Top Cow, Dark Horse, Aftershock Comics, Vault Comics, Humanoids, Scout Comics and DC Comics. He has a new series coming to Dark Horse on June 3, Only the Savage are Left.

Pearson is the Eisner Award-winning artist and illustrator of such comics as The Infernals, In Bloom, and with Kaplan, Mindset. He has built a reputation as an inimitable talent through his varied portfolio producing work for clients as diverse as DC Comics, Image Comics, Vault Comics, Z2 Comics, Heavy Metal Magazine, Netflix, WWE, Rue Morgue Magazine, The Ray Harryhausen Foundation, Burning Witches Records and Arrow Video amongst many others.

Together the two are set to release a new series at Dark Horse in fall 2026 entitled The Smart Division.

Two Brooklyn plumbers, Mario and Luigi, must travel to another dimension to rescue a princess from the evil dictator King Koopa and stop him from taking over the world.

The 1993 film based (loosely) on the Mario video game series by Nintendo was directed by the husband-and-wife team Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel and written by Parker Bennett, Terry Runté and Ed Solomon. Super Mario Bros. stars Bob Hoskins as Mario Mario, John Leguizamo as Luigi Mario, Dennis Hopper as President "King" Koopa, Samantha Mathis as Princess Daisy and the Queen, Fisher Stevens as Iggy Koopa, Richard Edson as Spike Koopa, Mojo Nixon as Toad, and Frank Welker as the voice of Yoshi and Goombas.

The Super Mario Bros. movie hit theaters on May 28, 1993 and is now available on DVD and Blu-ray.
