Capes and Tights Podcast

It's here. The 300th episode of the Capes and Tights Podcast and with this, Justin Soderberg welcomes writer, director, actor, comedian, and podcaster Kevin Smith to the program to help us celebrate in fitting fashion!

Kevin Smith came to prominence with the low-budget comedy Clerks (1994), which he wrote, directed, co-produced, and acted in as the character Silent Bob of stoner duo "Jay & Silent Bob." Jay and Silent Bob have appeared in Smith's follow-up films Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Clerks II, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Kevin has also directed and produced films such as Cop Out (2010), the horror film Red State (2011), and the horror comedies Tusk (2014) and Yoga Hosers (2016), the first two films in the True North trilogy. More recently he has written and directed Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (2019), Killroy Was Here (2022), Clerks III (2022), and The 4:30 Movie (2024).

In the world of comics, Kevin Smith is known for his runs on DC's Green Arrow and the recently released Bizarro; Marvel's Daredevil, Jay & Silent Bob: Jays of Future Past, and recently released Spider-Man / Hulk: Fire and Brimstone; Dynamite Entertainment's Green Hornet and The Bionic Man; and Dark Horse's Masters of the Universe: Revelation, as well as writing comics under his imprint at Dark Horse with Quick Stops and Maskerade. It was recently announced Smith will be penning the first-ever Marvel / Star Wars crossover event, Star Wars / Marvel: Hope Assembles, which debuts in January 2027.

Kevin Smith has been podcasting on a regular basis over a number of different shows as part of his Smodcast platform since the early 2000's. Some of his more notable shows have been Fatman Beyond with co-host Marc Bernardin; Hollywood Babble-On with co-host Ralph Garman; Jay & Silent Bob Get Old with Jason Mewes; and more!

This is the 300th numbered episode of the Capes and Tights Podcast. Launched on August 8, 2021 in Bangor, Maine by co-founders Soderberg and Adam Morrisette, the Capes and Tights Podcast has faithfully released at least one-episode per week. Over five years, the Capes and Tights Podcast has gone on to host 196 different guests, reviewed 63 movies and 13 television programs all from their studio in Maine.

This week on the Capes and Tights Podcast, Justin Soderberg welcomes author Richard Chizmar to the program to discuss his Boogeyman series including his final installment, Killing the Boogeyman, and more!

Chizmar is a New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Amazon, and Publishers Weekly bestselling author best known for his collaborations with Stephen King on Gwendy's Button Box and Gwendy's Final Task, as well as sole writing the middle book Gwendy's Magic Feather. He has also authored The Boogeyman series with Chasing the Boogeyman, Becoming the Boogeyman, and Killing the Boogeyman. Recently he co-authored a best-selling book with his son W.H. Chizmar entitled Widow's Point: The Complete Haunting.

The bestselling author is also the founder/publisher of Cemetery Dance magazine and the Cemetery Dance Publications book imprint. He has edited more than 35 anthologies and his short fiction has appeared in dozens of publications. Chizmar's work has been translated into more than fifteen languages throughout the world.

This week on the Capes and Tights Podcast, Justin Soderberg welcomes Star Trek Editor Heather Antos to the program to celebrate 60 years of Star Trek on Star Trek Day 2026.

Heather Antos is the Senior Group Editor in charge of Star Trek at IDW Publishing. Antos oversees the Star Trek line which includes titles such as The Last Starship, Red Shirts, Lower Decks, Starfleet Academy: Lost Contact, Strange New Worlds: The Seeds of Salvation, and more!

Star Trek Day is an annual commemorative day on September 8, referencing the broadcast US premiere of the original Star Trek series on that day in 1966, with the airing of "The Man Trap". This year, we are celebrating the 60th anniversary of Star Trek with this episode dropping a day early to coincide with the special day!

This week on the Capes and Tights Podcast, Justin Soderberg welcomes comic creator Christian Ward to the program to discuss The Forever Home, The Patron, and more!

After 10 years of encouraging London teenagers to draw anything other than comics, Christian Ward is now a multi-Eisner winning comic book artist and writer. He is best known for his cosmic space operas ODY-C co-created with Matt Fraction and the Einser winning Invisible Kingdom co-created with G Willow Wilson. He was also the artist on the Acclaimed Marvel comics series Black Bolt (with Saladin Ahmed), as well contributing to both Thor (with Jason Arron) and Batman (with James Tynion IV). In 2019 he released his first book as a writer, Machine Gun Wizards co-created with Sami Kivelä and in 2022 released Blood Stained Teeth co-created with Patric Reynolds.

Over the past few years, Ward has illustrated Spectregraph for DSTLRY and written such comics as Batman: City of Madness (artist as well) and Two-Face for DC Comics, Event Horizon: Dark Descent, Event Horizon: Inferno, and Event Horizon: Pandemonium for IDW Publishing, as well The Patron for Ignition Press and the upcoming The Forever Homefor Oni Press.

Salcedo is an Eisner Award-nominated comic book illustrator based in Portland, Oregon. He is the artist on Dark Horse miniseries, It's Only Teenage Wasteland with writer Curt Pires. Jacoby has also been featured in multiple comic anthologies such as DC's Legion of Bloom, Panel X Panel, Graphic Mundi's Covid Chronicles, A Wave Blue World's Young Men in Love, Monsters in Love: A Pride Anthology, and more!

Anta is an Eisner Award-nominated author of many graphic novels including Home, Sí, Se Puede: The Latino Heroes Who Changed the United States and The Beast of Boriken. Julio can also be found in anthologies such as EC Comics' Shellshock and Cruel Universe, DC's Legion of Bloom and Batman: Urban Legends, as well as Hello Darkness.

Together the creative duo has put together Frontera, This Land is Our Land: A Blue Beetle Story, and the upcoming No Gods, No Masters, which hits shelves on September 2, 2026 from BOOM! Studios.
