Our Guest Host Series continues this month with a new block of episodes led by L'Oréal Porçeia McCollum, aka L’Or, vinyl DJ, licensed therapist, community educator, and full-time music nerd whose work brings together music, storytelling, culture, and community care.

For her first episode L'Oreal takes us inside the Free Library of Philadelphia for a conversation about records as personal and cultural archives, what physical media can preserve that digital formats can't, and why libraries have an important role in keeping music history accessible.

L'Oréal sits down with Jane Lippman, Vinyl Record Collections Librarian, and Suzanna A. Urminska, Curator of Exhibitions at the Free Library of Philadelphia, to dig into the stories records carry beyond the music in the grooves. Jane shares their work building vinyl-centered collections and programming at the Library, including Library Mixtape, named Philadelphia Magazine's 2026 "Best of Analog Joy." Suzanna brings more than 20 years of experience across libraries, archives, and museums, with a focus on connecting collections to lived experience, community, and the ways we tell and preserve our stories.

Together, they explore records as artifacts of memory, identity, place, and culture; the responsibility institutions have in deciding what gets collected and remembered; and why making these histories accessible matters. It's a conversation about what we keep, what we pass on, and everything a record can tell us when we take the time to listen.

In Part Two of our guest host series with the Trans Music Archive, host and TMA co-founder Alana Jordan sits down with legendary DJs, producers, and partners Eris Drew and Octo Octa for a conversation about vinyl's enduring place on the dance floor, and why records remain at the heart of queer nightlife.Known around the world for their all-vinyl DJ sets, the pair have spent decades cultivating dance floors rooted in connection, joy, healing, and community. Together they travel around the world spinning records from their 15,000 piece record collection, proving that in an increasingly digital world, vinyl still carries a unique kind of magic.

In this episode led by Alana, the group explores ideas of musical alchemy, synchronicity, and why a record isn't just a format, it's a sacred object capable of transforming a room full of strangers into a community.  Eris and Maya tell stories from the heyday of 12-inch singles, and the art of seamless DJ blending to their first date crate digging in a New Hampshire barn, and reflect on the records that shaped not only their careers, but queer culture, and their lives together.

Their conversation explores the power of records as cultural artifacts, tools for preservation, and vehicles for community building. Together, they discuss the significance of physical media in an increasingly digital world, the importance of documenting underrepresented stories, and how vinyl can serve as both an artistic medium and a historical record. Melissa’s journey into music started early, growing up alongside her dad selling bootleg tapes at conventions, and has evolved into a multifaceted career from record retail, to her nonprofit supporting artists and live music in the community.

They dive into what it really takes to buy, run, and shape an independent record store into something uniquely your own, along with prepping for the chaos (and magic) of Record Store Day.
