Join our Patreon family for exclusive bonus content, early access to Girl On Gore episodes, access to BTS, private group chats, merch discounts, and to guest co-host with Investigator Slater! www.Patreon.com/PsychopediaPod In Part 2 of our deep dive into Joel Rifkin, aka "Joel the Ripper," we follow the trail of evidence that shattered the illusion of suburban safety and introduced the world to New York’s most known prolific serial killer. The quiet, ordinary man next door was finally exposed when police pulled him over and discovered a decomposing body in the trunk of his car. Seventeen women were brutally murdered by a man who couldn’t even recall all their names, but remembered every detail of how they died in his hands. We dig into the investigation that laid bare the cracks in law enforcement’s response to missing sex workers, the trial, criminological theories relating to serial killers, and interviews where Joel seemed more titillated by the attention than tormented by guilt. • EP134: The Serial Killer Next Door: Joel Rifkin (Part 1)
Join our Patreon family for exclusive bonus content, access to BTS, a private group chat, merch discounts, and to guest co-host with Investigator Slater! www.Patreon.com/PsychopediaPod Inspired by Gary Ridgway and Ted Bundy, serial killer Joel Rifin modeled his victimology and body disposable methods like a grotesque homage: limbs in cement, heads in paint cans, bodies dumped with calculated precision. For four years in the late 1980s/early 90s, while living with his mother in the heart of suburban Long Island, NY, Joel Rifkin hunted women on the margins. Joel, a bullied outcast with a high IQ and a severely damaged frontal lobe, didn’t explode overnight. He eroded. First came the fantasies. Then came the reality of 17 victims whom he strangled and dismembered with an X-Acto knife. Joel blended in — just another quiet man with a sedan, a part time job, and a taste for sadism. This wasn’t some obvious "monster" lurking in the shadows. This was a depraved serial killer next door, hiding in plain sight, mowing the same lawns your kids play on. • EP133: TikTok Execution: Killed On Camera
Join our Patreon family to guest co-host with Investigator Slater! Also gain exclusive access to BTS, bonus true crime episodes, a private group chat, merch discounts, and much more! www.Patreon.com/PsychopediaPod On May 13, 2025, 22-year-old influencer Valeria Márquez was executed on TikTok livestream — shot point-blank by a man disguised as a delivery driver inside her own beauty salon in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico. Viewers watched in horror as she clutched her chest and stomach before collapsing, still holding a stuffed animal as she perished on camera. Horrifyingly, the video footage went viral, and the calculated nature of the hit left Mexico (and the rest of the world) stunned. Investigators are continuing to explore whether the murder was cartel-related, a personal betrayal, or both. Rumors point to a possible setup by an employee or even Valeria’s best friend, who allegedly urged Valeria to stay at the salon just as the killer arrived. The most widespread theory, however, ties Valeria’s death to her ex-boyfriend, Ricardo Ruiz Velazco (aka “Doble R”), a high-ranking member of the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) cartel. One thing is certain: her execution was not random. Valeria’s murder now stands as a devastating emblem of Mexico’s brutal crossroads - where femicide, cartel violence, and institutional failure collide with devastating consequences. • EP132: Missing and Murdered: The Highway of Tears
Join our Patreon family to guest co-host with Investigator Slater! Also gain exclusive access to BTS, bonus true crime episodes, a private group chat, merch discounts, and much more! www.Patreon.com/PsychopediaPod The Highway of Tears, a desolate stretch of road in British Columbia, Canada, is infamous for its gruesome history of disappearances and murders. Over the past few decades, at least 40 women and girls—mostly Indigenous—have vanished or been found dead along this remote, unforgiving route, which winds through vast, isolated wilderness. This highway has become a chilling emblem of systemic neglect, where victims’ cries for justice have been ignored, their lives reduced to little more than statistics. Many of these women and girls, often hitchhiking, traveling alone, or living in vulnerable circumstances, were treated as expendable in a place where predatory killers lurk undetected. Despite years of investigations, the full extent of the violence remains buried, and the Highway of Tears stands as a brutal reminder of how easily society discards those it deems unworthy, their stories lost to a road that refuses to forget.
