Today, we arrive at the final chapter of 2 Samuel — a chapter that feels both sobering yet strangely hopeful. After all the battles, betrayals, restorations, and songs of deliverance, the book closes not with a triumph, but with a moment of failure… and yet a surprising revelation of God’s mercy.
2 Samuel 24 tells the story of David’s census — a wrong-headed decision driven by pride, insecurity, and misplaced confidence. It’s a moment where David, the seasoned king, forgets the lesson he learned as a young shepherd boy:
Victory never comes from numbers, but from God Himself…. So, let’s walk through a chapter that confronts us with the cost of pride, but also invites us to witness the mercy of a God who never leaves His people without hope.
