We also get his thoughts on the team opening up the wallet to bring in DJ Smith as the new associate coach, plus the latest inside track on the simmering Darnell Nurse trade rumors as Stan Bowman tries to navigate a massive cap crunch ahead of draft weekend.

The absolute nuke of the NHL offseason finally detonated, and the dust is still settling across the hockey world. The boys are dedicating a massive chunk of today's show to breaking down the official hiring, the introductory press conference, and what this high-stakes gamble means for the locker room.

We got right into all the news from yesterday around the world of sport for Morning Announcements presented by The Rundle Park Short Course.

We got the third hour started with Mr Mikes Kind of Easy Trivia.

It was then time for Three Questions Too Many presented by Park Mazda.

ESPN's senior NHL writer Greg Wyshynski was our final guest on today's show to put a bow on a massive news day. With all signs pointing toward an official Mike Babcock hiring—potentially as early as this morning—we asked Wysh what a Babcock introductory press conference could look like in Edmonton. From there, we shifted gears to the trade market, looking at potential frameworks for a Darnell Nurse deal, analyzing the Florida Panthers' recent offseason aggression, and debating whether they can actually pull off a blockbuster for Connor Hellebuyck. Finally, Greg took us around the league with a rapid-fire breakdown of the latest NHL trade and free agency rumours.

We finished the show like we always do with The Wrap from William Huff.

    The Nielson Show - June 23rd, 2026 - Hour 2

    23/06/2026 | 57 min
Former NHLer Jamie McLennan joined the show out of the gate to break down a chaotic day in Edmonton. We started with Noodles' initial reactions to the Oilers locking up Connor Murphy and Jason Dickinson. From there, we turned our attention to today's massive media availability, where Mike Babcock is expected to be introduced as the next head coach. What does the term look like on a Babcock deal? With these roster moves locked in, what is Stan Bowman's next play—and what would a realistic return look like in a Darnell Nurse trade? Plus, we head out East to look at the fallout in Ottawa after the blockbuster Brady Tkachuk trade, and whether the Florida Panthers have the chips to pull off a deal for Connor Hellebuyck.

It was then time for the Play Alberta Early Bird Bet of the day.

After the break, we got into Weekly Confessions for Spectrum Rent All. Some pretty solid confessions from the boys this week.

Then to cap off hour two, we got into Offseason, What Offseason presented by GCL Diesel to read the nasties Darnell Nurse trade proposals.
