Four Tiny Actions That Will Support Your Gay, Lesbian, or Bisexual Kid This Week

    18/09/2026 | 9 min
What does your gay son, lesbian daughter, or bisexual kid actually need from you this week?
This follows up on Tuesday's episode about the real differences between a son and daughter coming out. Heather offers four small, specific actions, one for each thread from that conversation, so nothing gets lost in the idea that "gay is gay." Small doesn't mean simple. It means paying attention to which questions this particular kid is actually asking.
In this episode you'll learn how to:
Normalize health information for a gay or bisexual son in the same matter-of-fact tone you'd use for a dentist reminder
Catch and resist the "it's safer, it's two women" assumption that can quietly lower your guard for a lesbian or bisexual daughter
Use one line that counters bisexual erasure for good, no matter who your kid is currently dating

Press play for four small ways to show up specifically, not generically, this week.

Books Are Windows and Mirrors: Sheri Becker on Writing Inclusive Kids' Books and Fighting Bans

    16/09/2026 | 44 min
    SPECIAL EPISODE!
What actually happens when a book gets banned, and who pays the price for it?
Heather sits down with children's author and Whale Rock Workshops founder Sheri Becker to talk about why inclusive books matter for every kid on the shelf, not just the ones who see themselves in the story. Sheri pulls back the curtain on what it actually takes to write across difference, why publishers are quietly passing on great books before they're even banned, and what parents can do that actually moves the needle.
In this episode, you'll learn how to:
Understand why books work as both windows and mirrors for kids, and why every bookshelf needs both
Recognize what's really driving the current wave of book bans, and why it's nothing new
Support authors, libraries, and publishers in concrete ways, from library requests to buying banned titles directly

Press play to learn why the fight over banned books is really a fight over which kids get to feel less alone.

In this episode, you'll learn how to:
Recognize which of the six stages you're in right now, from shock through true acceptance
Work through guilt and shame without carrying them for years
