ENCORE: Donald Osborne on Buying Right, Selling Right, and Living Right

    20/08/2026 | 59 min
This is an encore presentation of our popular episode from October 16, 2025.
Alex has a lively interview with none other than Donald Osborne (@zagato67 on BaT): ASA accredited senior appraiser, TV personality, principal of Automotive Valuation Services, and consulting director for the Audrain Automobile Museum. They talk about BaT's start as an amalgamation of interesting POSes;  maximum impact for minimal outlay; the similarities between a car for sale and the ideal political candidacy; sage advice for sellers on BaT and elsewhere; the art of self-editing;  the right price for the wrong car; multitasking, the car guy way; ignoring one's own hard-earned advice; cars as an investment in happiness; driving Derek Drinkwater's Le Monstre replica at Goodwood; and adventures in Sicily on the old Targa Florio route. We'll have Donald back for more!

    Motorsports Mavericks with George Levy

    13/08/2026 | 39 min
This week, Alex welcomes perennial favorite (and recently retired) guest George Levy back to the show to talk about his new book,  Motorsports Mavericks, on which he partnered with his dear friend, the late Pete Biro–photographer, editor, and magician extraordinaire. The book focuses on the personalities and world of motor racing in the 1960s, so George and Alex have plenty to talk about.
The pair cover being in that special "someplace else" as a race photographer; the bygone decathletes of motor racing; the effect of dropping Biro's name, whether at the track or the Magic Castle; the importance of the human connection in motorsports; shooting mere inches from race cars at full chat; pulling the tablecloth trick for Bruce McLaren; the humanity of Dan Gurney; mining oral history instead of "writing the third book"; the personal cost of losing drivers and friends to the cruel sport; and money, fame, and girls for John Morton.
George encourages patronizing your local enthusiast bookstore, should you be lucky enough to have one nearby. And if you're really lucky, you can find him at these upcoming signings—he promises a signed copy is only worth 20% less than a regular one!

Rising Tides, F1, Semi-Pros, Nerds in Training

    30/07/2026 | 56 min
This week, Alex and Beck make excuses; speak out of their rear ends; contemplate "two for twice the price"; share the joys of a race track at dawn; decide whether drag racing is an "event phenomenon"; think screaming matches are the best part of F1, which has a multitude of non-best parts; drop some dated (and sadly inaccurate) LeBron theory; and opine on the true marker of middle age.
They then embark on an extended conversation about sub-professional sports teams, ruminate on the news from Goodwood, discover the potential benefits of wearing BaT gear in public, talk about what constitutes rarity (with, admittedly, some stretching of numbers to make a point), go boar hunting with machine guns, train a wunderkind to be an insufferable car nerd, and, naturally, discuss their favorite license plates.

How We Really Keep it Running

    23/07/2026 | 46 min
This week, Alex and Tyler are joined for the first time by Emily, BaT's treasured and stalwart Operations Manager, to talk about what it's like to be on the fringes of car enthusiasm while working with a staff full of blustery, car-obsessed nerds. They talk about being the bridge between a major corporation and the rogues gallery that is BaT HQ in San Francisco; her first memorable event experiences in Monterey, and more recent ones; Alex's 308 GTB vs Randy's Turbo 2; a great new merch idea (and a call for suggestions); office therapy; Spotted Cow and fried cheese curds; the prospects of driving a Cord and a Willys coupe to Flagstaff; and Retromobile vs the World Cup.
Also covered: going to a bar and screaming, the world-healing power of ranch dressing, the team's recent watchlist favorites, uncertainty about a self-propelled house, an unavoidable Elan/Elite deep dive, Tyler's unpopular automotive opinions, Em's quintessential '90s VW first-car experience, various permutations of the New Beetle, and the cars that first spoke to us in media or sense memory.

    The McQueen Classics Interview

    16/07/2026 | 53 min
This week, Alex interviews none other than Peter Guida of @mcqueens, one of BaT's most beloved and fastest-growing Local Partners and the host of our recent Meet-Up in lovely Lewes, Delaware. The gregarious Guida talks about how he got into cars due to his dad's decades at NASA; the Maryland and SoCal hot rod subcultures; getting shot down on his first approach to BaT; the origins of the McQueen name and logo; being paid to roll back speedometers (in the '80s, don't worry!); and using similar experiences from the bad old days to run things utterly by the book in modern times.
Peter also explains his unique strategies to deliver on BaT given his ever-increasing volume of listings, gets deep into the intricacies of the Delaware title system, talks up his idea for the next big thing at BaT, and regales with the various facts he uses to pitch his clientele on the BaT experience.
