#103 Tomorrow — Don’t get too far away, tomorrow.

In this episode, we explore BTS’s “Tomorrow.”
Released in 2014 on their second mini album, Skool Luv Affair, “Tomorrow” began as a song SUGA had been working on since his trainee days.
It captures the anxiety and frustration of young people who feel as though every day is repeating itself—moving toward their dreams, yet somehow remaining stuck in the same place.
So why, instead of simply telling us to believe in tomorrow, do they ask us not to drift too far away from it?
We explore the story behind the song, written during a time when SUGA himself was genuinely afraid of what tomorrow might bring; the meanings behind “Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V” and “like breaker”; and the different versions of “tomorrow” portrayed in the verses of SUGA, RM, and j-hope.
We also look at the subtle difference between the Korean expressions “살아지다” and “살아내다,” as well as the original 2014 dance practice footage released in 2022.
These are words sent to someone standing in the same darkness by seven young artists who did not yet know that dawn would eventually come for them.
“Tomorrow” is more than a song telling us not to give up on our dreams.
Even when we feel unable to move forward, it quietly asks us not to mistake our present standstill for the end of our journey—and not to drift too far away from our dreams or from the future.

なぜ彼らは「帰ってきたよ」ではなく、「戻ってきてもいい？」と問いかけたのでしょうか。

This time, we’re taking a closer look at BTS’s “Come Over.”
First released in 2026 as a bonus track exclusive to the Deluxe Vinyl edition of ARIRANG, “Come Over” was later made available digitally as part of BTS’s 13th anniversary FESTA celebrations.
On the surface, it sounds like a love song about asking someone you’ve been apart from, “Can I come see you again?” But underneath that story lies something much more personal: BTS’s own honest feelings as they return to ARMY after a long period apart.
“I’m lost, can I come over?”
Why do they ask, “Can I come over?” instead of simply saying, “We’re back”?
In this episode, we explore the meaning behind the title “Come Over,” the recurring image of knocking on a door, and the anxiety, vulnerability, and determination that emerge through SUGA, RM, and j-hope’s parts.
We’ll also look at the song’s production, including SUGA’s extensive involvement not only as a producer but also in the instrumentation and programming, its unusual release as a vinyl-only track, and the significance of performing it during the encore of the ARIRANG tour.

今回は、記念すべき第100回として、BTSの「Dynamite」を取り上げます。

2020年8月に発表された「Dynamite」は、1970年代のディスコやファンクを思わせる、明るく軽快なポップナンバーです。

BTS名義として初めて、最初から最後まで英語で歌われたこの曲は、Billboard Hot 100で初登場1位を記録。BTSを、それまでK-POPを聴いていなかった人や、英語圏のラジオリスナーにまで広く届ける、大きな転機となりました。

けれど、この曲が生まれた背景にあったのは、華やかな成功ではありません。

2020年、新型コロナウイルスの影響によって、BTSが予定していたワールドツアーは中止や延期を余儀なくされました。ファンと直接会うことができず、メンバー自身も落ち込みや無力感を抱えていた時期。

そんななかで「Dynamite」は、深刻な現実を正面から歌うのではなく、聴いている数分間だけでも不安を忘れ、明るいエネルギーを感じてもらうために生まれました。

朝起きて、靴を履き、牛乳を飲み、音楽に合わせて街へ出る。

歌詞には複雑な物語や深刻なメッセージはありません。キングコング、ローリング・ストーンズ、レブロン・ジェームズなど、ポップカルチャーを思わせる言葉がリズミカルに並びます。

大切なのは言葉を一つひとつ分析することではなく、音楽に身を任せ、自分自身が光となって、暗い夜を照らすこと。

For this milestone 100th episode, we’re taking a closer look at BTS’s “Dynamite.”

Released in August 2020, “Dynamite” is a bright, upbeat pop track inspired by the sounds of 1970s disco and funk.

As BTS’s first song performed entirely in English, it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It became a major turning point, introducing BTS to even wider audiences, including people who had never listened to K-pop before and radio listeners across the English-speaking world.

However, the song was not born out of a period of glamorous success.
In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic forced BTS to cancel or postpone their planned world tour. Unable to meet their fans in person, the members themselves experienced feelings of disappointment, uncertainty, and helplessness.

It was during this period that “Dynamite” was created—not to confront the seriousness of reality directly, but to help listeners forget their worries, even if only for a few minutes, and feel a burst of positive energy.

Wake up, put on your shoes, drink a cup of milk, and head out into the city with the music playing.

The lyrics do not tell a complicated story or carry a deeply serious message. Instead, references to King Kong, the Rolling Stones, LeBron James, and other elements of pop culture appear in a playful, rhythmic flow.

The point is not to analyze every single word. It is to surrender to the music, become a source of light yourself, and brighten up the night.

2013年、デビューからわずか約3か月後に発表された1stミニアルバム『O!RUL8,2?』に収録されたこの曲。

韓国語タイトルは「진격의 방탄（チンギョゲ・バンタン）」といい、「防弾少年団が進撃したら、どうなる？」という大胆な問いを掲げながら、まだ無名だった7人が自分たちの存在と野心を力強く叫ぶ、初期BTSの自己紹介アンセムです。

自分たちの名前を覚えさせたい。
音楽への情熱と実力を証明したい。
7人で音楽界を揺らしたい。

歌詞に込められているのは、成功したスターの余裕ではなく、何者でもない新人だからこその焦りや反骨心、そして、まだ何の保証もない中でのまっすぐな自信です。

今回は、この曲のタイトルの意味、デビュー直後のBTSが置かれていた状況、そして観客を巻き込む自由なパフォーマンスについてお話しします。

#099 Attack on Bangtan — What Happens When Bangtan Begins Its Advance?
In this episode, we take a closer look at BTS’s “Attack on Bangtan.”
Released in 2013, just around three months after their debut, the song was included on BTS’s first mini album, O!RUL8,2?
Its Korean title is “진격의 방탄” (Jingyeogui Bangtan), and the song boldly asks, “What happens when Bangtan begins its advance?”
It is an early BTS self-introduction anthem, with seven still-unknown rookies loudly declaring their identity and ambition.
They want people to remember their name.
They want to prove their passion and talent for music.
They want to shake up the music industry as seven.
What we hear in the lyrics is not the confidence of already successful stars, but the urgency and defiance of rookies who have not yet become anyone, along with a straightforward belief in themselves despite having no guarantee of success.
In this episode, I talk about the meaning behind the song’s title, the situation BTS found themselves in shortly after debut, and the playful, free-spirited performances that allowed them to draw the audience into the song.
In 2013, they asked, “What happens when Bangtan begins its advance?”
