Late into the night of September 8, 1972, Minnie Winston was taking a bath before going to bed. It had been a typical warm fall day in the south, and a nice bath was just what she needed to wash away her sweat and any worries she may have had while taking care of her husband. She had always been more of a night owl and her husband, William, the only other person living with her at the time, had been asleep for a couple of hours at this point, tired and frail from his battle with his health at his older age. The house was still and quiet as Minnie stepped out of the tub. But as she put her foot down, she realized that what she thought was water was stickier than it should have been. She lifted her foot and found that there was a strange red substance on the floor.
She was confused, because she hadn’t seen it when she got into the tub and it seemed to be coming from in between the tiles. Not concerned at this point she walked out into the hallway, noticing more red spots all along the way. It was splattered on the floor and across the bottom of the walls. She went to her bedroom to check on her husband and make sure all was well. He laid there, still sleeping just as he had been before she got into the tub. She wasn’t really sure what was happening and woke him up, letting him know that something strange was going on. It seemed their house was bleeding…
